The best surf festivals in Spain
Step by step there are more people interested in practice surf. Spain has great beaches to do it. Although, it is not already one of the best sport in the country. Most of festivals are focused in the north, but this will change.

Cosmic Children Festival
It is the meeting point for the past, present and future generations of surfing. This celebration of the surf culture takes place in Santander and Liencres beach (surf northern Spain) at the beginning of summer. Dunas Beach in Liencres is idyllic place to celebrate this kind of events.
It happens during two days that they do an homage to the 70’ and 80’ surf culture. This year also there has been a new category, the Sherd Your Shape. This last edition has stood out for being the most international because surfers from 4 continents have participated.
Campeonato Madrileño de Surf
Yes, it is true. The Up Surf Club, the first surf club from Madrid with Santa Marina Surfcamp made possible the first Campeonato Madrileño de Surf. This event happened in September 2015 in the beaches of Ribadesella, in Asturias.
Even being the first time, more than 70 surfers from Madrid participated in the competition. The level was very high and there were three different categories, in which the girl one stood out with 15 participants. The success was such great that they promised a second edition this year.
Jornada de Surf Solidario
This day happens during the month of June in Gijon, in Asturias. It is an event that this year makes its fifth edition. It is created by Surf Solidario, a not-profit association founded in Asturias in 2012. It firstly searches to bet for the good surf as caring and therapeutic tool.
During the day they teach surf to children with special disabilities and they collect money to different associations and caring organizations. This year the event was last 2 of July and more than surf, people could enjoy activities as concerts, Zumba lessons, crossfit and all kind of activities for all the family.
Surfilm Festibal
It is an international show whose first goal is connect the cinema and the surf culture, not only from a sportive point but a social point of view and taking in account the environment care. This year they have celebrate its fourteenth edition and they are planning the fifteenth one for next year. It happens every year in San Sebastian.
Salinas Longboard Festival
It usually takes places the last weekend of July in the Salinas beach, in Asturias. It stands out for being a competition with a high presence of important riders, newness in surf, films, music…
In the last edition, the categories were Pro, Women, Amateur, Sub16, Group, and Single/Retro.
Motorbeach festival
This festival has taken place this summer in La Espasa Beach. This year has celebrated its fourth edition. It usually takes places in July and connects days of sun, music, waves, cars, motorbikes and classic vans (do you our campervan classic rout through Andalusia?).
It stands out overall because of the mix that they live in the beach during those days. The lovers of motorbikes join to surfer lovers to enjoy the place that also have concerts, bars, shops…
Festival Escuela Cantábrica de Surf
It is one of the most important dates in Cantabria. It takes places in the Somo Beach, and this year celebrates its seventh edition during the last weekend in August. In this occasion there will be also the 18º Open Escuela Cantabra de Surf, the competition with more editions in the community and one of the most important in Spain.
In addition, during those days it takes place also a music festival and a skate festival.
SURFARI 2016
This event celebrates its second edition this year. It is a surf documentary movie festival in Andalusia, that it takes place in Conil de la Frontera, in Cadiz.
Its author is Riki Blanco, an illustrator with a high experience in graphic production in different books, press and music. He has already won many national and international awards.
In other hand we have to take in account that last January took place the first Gala Nacional de Surf in Suances city. During the gala, the Spanish Federation of Surf made a recognition to all those sportsmen and women who won some award last year. This event, that is hope to be celebrated again, included fashion surf show or important meetings.
